Ioannis Metaxas, Prime Minister of Greece between 1936 and 1941

A former military officer, he led the staunchly monarchist Freethinkers' Party until 1936 when he was appointed prime minister by King George II. With the support of the monarch, he initiated a self-coup and established an authoritarian, nationalist regime and banned all other political parties. His term as prime minister was marked by patriotism, anti-communism and support for the Greek Orthodox Church.

Metaxas' legacy still lives on to this day, with parties such as Greece's Golden Dawn and Cyprus' ELAM holding him in high regard and crediting him for his contribution to the two parties' political ideology (called "Metaxism") which is based around the '4th of August Regime' that Metaxas established whilst in power.

He is also celebrated by monarchists for defending the king in the face of anti-monarchist, anti-God communists. May his memory never fade! 👑
